I always photograph in available light. However, this often presents challenges, because the range of values (light to dark) far exceeds the capabilities of the film or sensor. In order to capture an impression close to what our eye/brain systems perceive, I must make a range of exposures when capturing an image, then use special high-dynamic-range techniques in post-processing. Such was the case with this image; I feel the final result comes very close to what I saw when I was there. |
