There is a Belle Grove Plantation near Middletown, VA, that was built in 1797 by Major Isaac Hite and his wife, Nelly Madison Hite, who was a sister of President James Madison. My family and I have visited this home. I instantly thought of it when I saw this quilting pattern called "Belle's Crossing." I had to make the quilt!
