"Rose of Sharon" 2014
This Rose of Sharon applique quilt includes blocks that were some of the winning designs from the online EQ6 Challenge in 2009. The challenge was to design a Rose of Sharon block using only three given shapes (blossom, circle and leaf) in limited sizes. I used my favorite applique process, which I do entirely by machine, using fusible web, with a blanket stitch around each applique piece. The fabrics are batiks, with some hand-dyed fabrics from Cherrywood. The quilting was done by Carolyn Archer of Lebanon, Ohio. This is the only quilt I've made that I've enjoyed so much that I have now started making a second one similar to it, which I will quilt myself. Usually, given the large amount of time and effort put into a quilt, by the time I finish a quilt I'm ready to move on to a totally different design. |
