This applique quilt was made by Ann Walcott Peters, paternal grandmother of my grandmother, Mertie Peters Hanover. The quilt shows considerable wear, indicating that it was used regularly, rather than being saved for "company." I am in awe of the 1,386 tiny circles, which are difficult to make! The red and green colors were commonly used at the time. In the bottom photo, note how finely the stitches are made. This quilt was made prior to 1869.
